Assessment and Moderation Specialists

The Edbiz Philosophy

Edbiz is a brand of services developed to support educators in New Zealand.

Edbiz believes that education and training provide opportunities to make a positive impact on people’s lives and improve their standard of living.

We are passionate about supporting the people that make it happen.

We have specialised in assessment and moderation so we can do our part by helping educators and assessors to recognise the achievements of their students or trainees. Today, achievement is primarily measured through gaining credits to attribute towards unit & achievement standards that lead to National Certificates.

Edbiz supports management and staff and we believe that this will give staff more time to spend with their students or trainees.

We also believe that the best people to deliver our services are the experienced people who are working in and around our schools, organisations and workplaces. We have also identified a need for experts who offer their services through one brand of services, Edbiz.

Edbiz is building a network of part time businesses and people who have a desire to pass on their experience and offer their services to support your organisation.

Edbiz is also building strategic partnerships with existing education support businesses to provide access to their services through Edbiz. We operate alongside registered and accredited NZQA Providers to offer our services and we also work under their accreditations directly.

Founders Rationale

The Edbiz brand is owned by Case Group Limited and was founded by Stephen Strawbridge. Stephen or Stax as he is known, has worked in the education sector since 1997. He has had the opportunity to work in every role there is in a PTE, at all levels from the 'shop floor' through to senior management. He specialised in the management of assessment design and practice, quality assurance and programme development before moving into strategic development and the management of the multi site PTE.

As he has progressed through his different roles he has completed professional development and short courses to attain the National Certificate in Adult Education and Training Levels 4 & 5 and believes that ongoing assessment and moderation training done on the job is the best way to gain the skills and knowledge to develop good assessor and moderator practice.

Stax is still working in the education sector offering management services to PTEs and offering services through Edbiz. He is passionate about establishing systems and programmes that educate, train and assess people to meet industry demands and needs.

"I have always found it quite hard to get experienced and qualified people who can assess against all the unit standards within a given programme or who can help with some the management workload. You generally end up having to get someone else in, so that you can meet the standard setting body requirements or find the expertise that you need to get them job done.

This is why I set up Edbiz. To establish a network of people prepared to utilise their expertise on a contract basis. Generally, it is difficult for the industry experts to make a living out of providing services to the education sector and the sector finds in unaffordable to pay them the remuneration required to work in a full time salary position.

Employment obligations make it hard for experts in the education sector to offer their services and for their employers it is often not financially viable to offer their employees to others, as it is not their core business and it can get quite complicated to manage.

Experts and assessors who offer their services through Edbiz can keep their jobs, be engaged as a contractor and work on a part time basis for the education sector. This is a win-win solution for education and the industry experts. Education gets experts with current industry skills and knowledge and the expert gets an opportunity to pass on their expertise and develop the next generation of the workforce for their industry.”

The concept of contracted services working alongside management, tutors, trainers, assessors or teachers isn’t a new one but with the expectations and performance measures continually increasing and extra demands on employers we will all require some extra support and expertise from time to time to deliver on our promises.”

Edbiz is also working on win-win solutions and ways a workplace or education organisation can benefit in return for allowing their staff to work within normal business hours for you.
